Just Ahead

Just Ahead Launches Guide to Rocky Mountain National Park

Just Ahead’s newest smartphone audio tour is Rocky Mountain National Park, a magnificent 265,600-acre park full of mountain splendor and dramatic roads—perfectly suited to a narrated tour. The guide includes all of the park’s major paved routes as well as approaches from both the east and west. As you drive, GPS triggers narration for what you’re seeing. In other words, you come to a bend in a high mountain road and you wonder, “Wow! What’s that mountain?” That’s exactly when we tell you all about it.

This is our first guide in Colorado, and our first guide written by Mel White, highly respected author of National Geographic’s Complete National Parks of the United States.

As with all of our audio guides, once you download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play, you don’t need an Internet connection or mobile-phone signal to use it. Just turn it on, drive, and enjoy.

The guide leads listeners to all of the park’s major sights, including Bear Lake, Wild Basin, the Continental Divide, the Kawaneechee Valley, and Trail Ridge Road. Trail Ridge is the highest continuous paved road in the United States. As you drive it, Just Ahead not only points out the scenic highlights, but tells you all about the transitions as you experience them, from the montane ecosystem to subalpine terrain to dramatic alpine tundra above tree line. (Trail Ridge Road is closed during the snowy months, but most of the rest of the park roads remain open.)

We also point out trailheads for some of the greatest mountain hikes in the country, including hikes to the Twin Sisters Peaks, the great hikes that emanate from Bear Lake, and the trail to Chasm Lake at the base of the sheer north face of Longs Peak, highest mountain in the park at 14,259 feet.

In between jaw-dropping sights, we tell you stories about the park’s wildlife—elk, bighorn sheep, moose, bears—and suggest the best places to see them. You’ll also learn about the park’s history and geology, neighboring towns, and cool places to camp and stay.

With Just Ahead, you get a full, rich, engaging, and entertaining experience of one of the most inspiring landscapes in the world.
