Coming Soon: Just Ahead’s Tour of Death Valley National Park

We’ve been hard at work on our next Just Ahead tour, and we’re just about to unwrap it.

What’s just ahead for Just Ahead?

Death Valley National Park.

This is no small feat. Death Valley is immense. The largest park in the lower 48 American states. That’s right: Death Valley, at 3.4 million acres, is larger than Yellowstone National Park.

And full of amazing places, astounding beauty, rich history, and fascinating stories.

We’re very proud of this narrated audio tour tour, which covers more than 300 locations in and around Death Valley National Park. We guide you to the park from any direction you choose, and once you’re in the park, we guide you to amazing sights along the park’s excellent paved roads, plus many dirt roads suitable for passenger cars.

Quick quiz:

If you answered Death Valley, you’re right. (Then again, why else would I be asking? Heh.)

Death Valley is truly one of my favorite places anywhere. I wrote a cover story about it for National Geographic Adventure magazine, when I learned that summer in the park was just as cool . . . er, fascinating . . . as any other season. And I wrote the Death Valley chapter of National Geographic’s Secrets of the National Parks.

So revisiting places like Badwater, lowest place in North America, and Salt Creek, home of the tiny Salt Creek pupfish, was like seeing old friends. Touring Scotty’s Castle, the West’s most interesting home, is always a blast, but this time I caught the Underground Tour. We’ll tell you all about it—in our narrated tour.

I also got to discover a few new treasures, such as the quirky Amargosa Opera House, just outside the park. What’s an opera house doing in the middle of the Mojave Desert? That was my question exactly.

And what’s a 25-foot waterfall doing in the middle of Death Valley National Park? Trickling into a cool, clear pool. Amazing.

Death Valley is full of surprises, and so is our tour. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready. Pack your sun hat.
